COVID-19 (coronavirus) Update

With another full week of COVID-19 information under our belt, and lots more data to consider and evaluate, the team at The Haven has determined that we need to extend the closure of our property and programs beyond April 1.

At this point, we are announcing that The Haven will close its physical facilities until further notice. While our campus is closed for now, we are excited to let you know we are working hard behind the scenes to stay “open” in a different way through online offerings.

Please bear with us as we navigate a new method of delivery and find ways to provide what you have come to know and love with Haven programming in a way that honours our collective responsibility for social distancing, individual well-being and need to connect with one another.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and co-operate fully with health authority recommendations to ensure we keep our staff and community healthy. We will return to normal operations only when it is clearly safe to do so. We will continue to update our website daily with any pertinent news that would be helpful. Please stay connected as we engage you in the new world of online learning!

With appreciation and well wishes,

Haven Foundation Board of Directors & Warren Fraleigh, Executive Director

The Haven has been closely monitoring news regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus) and we continue to take action with the wellbeing of our community in mind. Up until this point, we have increased our cleaning protocols and created more flexibility in our cancellation policy to allow for guests who are at risk or concerned they may be sick to make the best decisions for themselves and others.

We are grateful that there have not been any cases reported on campus or on Gabriola Island.

With the continued health and wellbeing of our community being our top priority, we have decided to be proactive and close our campus temporarily:

  • We hope to reopen beginning April 1st. We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
  • We will connect with all participants registered for programs between now and April 1st as soon as possible.
  • We will continue to honour a more flexible cancellation policy (see below) through to the end of April.

Stay connected.

The Haven's campus will be closed, but our models, teachings, and practices are always here to help you thrive. Here's how you can continue to access our resources (and your own) during this challenging time:

  • Discover or revisit Haven-Style Breathing to increase resilience and feelings of connection to yourself and others. Take this opportunity to get curious about what suits your mind, body, and spirit.
  • Try practicing our Joints & Glands Moving Meditation accompanied by your favourite music to help relax and boost your immune system
  • Visit us on Facebook and Instagram as we continue to share great stories about our community members, thought leadership from our experienced faculty members, and other fun, inspiring, and valuable content.
  • Get excited about a summer of community at The Haven! We have dozens of programs planned to support your journey in personal and professional growth and development. Browse programs and register online or toll-free: 1.800.222.9211 x1.

At The Haven, we're committed to offering a safe and healthy environment for participants to heal, grow, and transform, and care deeply about our small island community. We apologize for any disappointment and inconvenience to our guests and participants and hope to have the opportunity to host you on Gabriola again soon. This decision was not made lightly and we believe we are doing what is necessary to prioritize the health and wellbeing of our participants, guests, staff, faculty, and community.

We will continue to evaluate the situation and share any updates to the above.  Please check back on our homepage or contact our team at 1.800.222.9211.

We want to assure you we are closely monitoring news regarding COVID-19 (aka coronavirus) and our overall approach is to be highly cautious and aware. At this point, there is no immediate concern onsite at The Haven or on Gabriola Island. Our programs are running and our campus remains open.  We care deeply about the health and wellbeing of our participants, guests, faculty, staff and community, and if you are considering visiting us or are already registered, please consider the following.

What we are doing at The Haven:

  • We are actively encouraging staff and faculty teams to stay home if they present any symptoms of cold or flu.
  • We are increasing the frequency of disinfecting and cleaning in common areas.
  • We are temporarily adjusting our cancellation policy to better accommodate illness and immune-related cancellations.
  • We’re closely monitoring news and guidance from local health authorities and the World Health Organization.
  • We are recommending modifications to close-contact activities in programs to our leadership teams.

What you can do for yourself and others:

  • The Haven is known as a safe container for people to heal, grow, and transform. As such, we ask that you please consider rescheduling your visit if you present any symptoms of the flu, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath. This also applies if you have recently traveled to any of the affected or high risk areas or have been in contact with anyone who has, but are not symptomatic.
  • In addition, if you have a compromised immune system, you may consider staying home.
  • If you need to cancel due to any of the reasons above, please contact our registrars: or 1.800.222.9211 x1. We will credit any accounts or allow stays to be rescheduled if your visit falls between now and mid‑April.
  • It is important that each of us is self-responsible and practice good hygiene, like effective hand washing or hand sanitization, and other preventative measures.

We will continue to evaluate the situation and share any updates to the above guidelines and recommendations.  Please check back on our homepage or contact our team.
