Lunch with Luminaries: Peter Joyes on Joy

With Peter Joyes and Kevin Wong

October 18, 2022

Join us for a FREE webinar with “The Amazing” Peter Joyes – a storyteller, graphic artist, and ubiquitous member of the Haven community.

Join “The Amazing” Peter Joyes as he regales us with some of his many fun and meaningful stories over his years at Haven.

Some people know him as “the bubble guy”, others may know him as the person who drew the amazing menus (in pre-covid times), and still others know him as “The Dark & Stormy Night” guy at New Years; We know him as “The Amazing” Peter Joyes. In a recent newsletter, you may have read the transcript of a conversation between Kevin Wong and Peter, reminiscing and reflecting on the joy and fun they’ve had during their time together at Haven. This will be an interview-style conversation between Peter Joyes and Kevin Wong where Peter will share his history, from his time in school to his life in business, before finding his creative and fun side.  He will share his stories about finding his humour, and how he learned to share it with so many from the Haven community.

[On the safety Haven provides to explore boundaries and get honest feedback…] Yes, that’s what I enjoyed about the Haven. I got some honest feedback quite frequently. I didn’t notice any negative feedback that really hurt me in any way. I don’t recall ever being insulted or ridiculed because of what I was doing. In fact, I got so much insight into people’s enjoyment of what I was doing, that was very true of the bubbles.

The bubbles were quite extraordinary for me. When I would encourage people to play with the bubbles, and sometimes no no, they didn’t want to do that. But then somehow, they’d come back later, maybe when there was nobody else there, and participate and play with the bubbles. I really enjoyed that. It was particularly nice for me to see people playing with the bubbles without me being there.

About the Lunch with Luminaries Series

Our webinar series – Lunch with Luminaries – aims to share different perspectives on a variety of topics of interest to our community. These talks pay homage to early Haven days where co-founders Ben and Jock invited various thought leaders into conversation – sometimes they agreed with the ideas shared and sometimes they didn’t. We think this spirit of curiosity and generosity is an important core value we hold, and we’re excited to recreate this concept today with time and space-transcending technology!

Each webinar will have a Haven Host who will introduce or interview the guest speaker and in some cases take Q&A from the audience. The focus of these 1-hour live events is expansion, learning, and curiosity. They are free for anyone to attend and will be hosted in Zoom, an easy-to-use event platform. Registrants will receive limited-time access to the recording following the event.
