Online! Young Adult Symposium

We're excited to announce that our 2nd annual Young Adult Symposium is going ONLINE! Last year, we gathered on our campus with over 60 young people for engaging discussions, activities, and presentations... THIS year, we're bringing back the best of the event and injecting fresh new ideas into an online format. If you're between 19 and 35, this event is for YOU!

The theme this year is Dancing with Conflict, which is even more relevant today than we could have imagined!

Here are some of the topics we'll be exploring:
- Power & privilege
- Digital dependence (the irony!)
- Finances & entrepreneurship
- Food security
- Relationships
- Gender & sexuality
- Embodiment & breath

Food Forestry: Resilience, Relationship & Regeneration

Thursday, May 14th at 8pm PT - Online

Through the art and science of food forestry, also known as edible forest gardening, it is possible to cultivate regenerative and resilient relationships to ourselves, communities, and landscapes. Food forestry has been called “Gardening for 1000 Years” and offers us a compelling model for surviving and thriving in a time of great change. In this workshop, we will explore not only how to grow these extraordinary edible ecosystems at home, but also what they can teach us about healthy human relationships, and how this ancient practice may hold the key to a fruitful future.

Joshua Clae Wagler was born into a family of farmers, but growing up in the city, Joshua became fascinated by the intersection of cities, farms, and the wild. After earning his Urban Studies degree at the University of Calgary, he began travelling the world, studying the globalization and sustainability of cities. Witnessing the devastation of conventional agriculture and urbanization, Joshua sought practical solutions, which led him to regenerative agriculture, urban farming, food forestry, and permaculture design. In 2013, he co-founded Edible Landscapes Design, Ltd, with a mission to create a beautiful future bursting with superfoods and leave a legacy of edible excellence.

Meagan has been growing food and learning about sustainable food cultivation for the past 12 years. In this time, she studied and worked as an organic farm apprentice, and managed a small farm and market garden for two seasons on Salt Spring Island. She also ran her own landscaping company for three years there before moving to the Victoria area to pursue her passions in designing and installing edible landscapes.

In her undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies, she specialized in Ecological Restoration at the University of Waterloo in 2010. It was during this time at Waterloo that Meagan became passionate about food security and repairing ecological systems. She began seeing enormous potential for bridging ecological rehabilitation with food production, discovering the revolutionary concepts of Food Forestry and methods for creating healthy ecosystems that nourish both us and our natural environment.

Stuart Windsor has spent his entire adult life in search of development and fulfillment. In his journey to find a more sustainable and peaceful way of being, Stuart experimented with a wide variety of self-discovery practices like journaling, meditation, team-building exercises, and psychedelic experiences. Stuart has since then been exploring closing the gap between generational knowledge and guidance in the form of mentorship. He has found that finding someone who embodies the qualities that he wants, and how to apply them, has been extremely effective for his life and his business. He has recognized that deep growth only happens amidst the struggle - he finds that self-expansion and the challenges that come with entrepreneurship are a feedback loop and has learned how to harness that. He doesn't consider himself a master of anything, especially not himself, but strives to be a catalyst for those keen to walk their own path of evolution.
